Why Knowing Your Values Changes Everything
Jemma Halpin • October 3, 2025

Ever wonder why you feel pulled in a hundred directions?
Why some decisions feel impossible?
Or why you keep saying yes when you really want to say no?
Often, it’s because you’re not anchored in your values.

What Are Values?

Values are the inner compass that guide your life. Like your North Star.

They’re the things that matter most to you, like freedom, family, honesty, fun, creativity, or security.

When you live in alignment with your values, life feels lighter, it flows and you feel more content and living with purpose.

When you ignore them, you feel stuck, resentful, or disconnected from yourself.

Why Values Matter

They help you make decisions faster - if it is not in alignment with your values it’s a big fat no! If it is in alignment it's a full body, hell yes!

They stop you from living for everyone else’s approval, it’s like you suddenly you have blinkers on and the outside noise quietens and you’re able to focus on what is truly important to YOU!

They give you clarity in moments of change - they can keep you grounded and centered.

They remind you who you are when life feels noisy and you forget or other people are trying to tell you. They bring you home to yourself.

How to Find Yours

Grab a journal and ask yourself:

  • When was the last time I felt truly alive?
  • What values were present in that moment?
  • What frustrates me the most?
  • Flip it — the opposite is often a hidden value. Example: If lack of respect frustrates you, maybe respect is a core value.)
  • What do I want my kids, family, or friends to remember me for?
  • Your legacy points to your values.

When you know your values, you stop drifting.

You stop making choices to please everyone else.

You start living by design, not by default.

This is the foundation for all personal growth.
